Is SHE Participating In This?

Two Trees Most Distant

Two Trees Most Distant

A PULL-OFF OUTSIDE OF HUTCHINSON, KS — #LivingIt #VanDwelling #Surrender

I said my goodbyes to Michelle yesterday and drove off. As I drove, for the first time in my nomadic life I felt lonely. I have often felt alone—cherishing the solitude—but never lonely.

It’s so rare to find someone who understands you. It’s even rarer when you’re a Mystic. As I said goodbye, I hoped I’d see Michelle again someday. But the truth is I simply don’t know.

This morning, I modified the skeleton text which I use to start these blog posts (title, date, etc.). At the top of the text, I added a few internal comments—reminders of things never to forget as I type. The very first comment says:

Is SHE participating in writing this?

I drove westward.

The Great Plains always feel symbolic to me, a spiritual transition zone from one state of being to another—like Limbo or the Bardo realms. Not a place to reside, but a place to move through. A place in between.

I drove.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump, the expansion joints whispered.

The vast open fields, newly planted, growing thick and green and alive.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

A lone tree, looming against an overcast sky, next to a road that goes on and on and on.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Is SHE participating in writing this?

As I looked out the windshield, I thought about that question. I asked it of myself.

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

Will you let HER participate in this?

Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Thump-thump.

I looked out at the sky and fields and the long road ahead. At the Limbo, at the Bardo realms, at the transition.

“I will,” I said, and reached down and turned off the GPS.

“I will.”

  1. I know what that feels like. Spending a short time with someone worth bonding with,,,suddenly the seat that was always empty next to you,,,FEELS empty.
