The Need For The Me-Thing

When Jerry first contacted me to do a Skype call, I thought at first he was just going to pitch TM, but after he persisted with a follow up email and particularly his essay, I knew I had to talk to him.

Jerry has “been here a long time (39 years)”—and by “been here” I’m pretty sure he’s talking about at least the Cosmic Consciousness level of TM’s levels of consciousness (just on the other side of the Gateless Gate). 39 years is a long time, so I felt honored he wanted to talk.

No TM pitch, no beating around the bush. We got right into it, and we got into a lot of deep and rarely discussed (or understood) higher levels of consciousness stuff. Minimum theory, maximum application (living it). Nor was it a one-sided conversation, there was a continuous back and forth exchanging of ideas and experiences.

What I want to share here is how powerfully Jerry’s insight (of the requirement of the individual me-thing) was to me. Mystics down through the ages have long sought to merge with their God—to dissolve completely into the Divine—but Jerry’s insight shows that in order to experience Her, in order to dance with Her, there must be some form of separation between the Mystic and their God.

I have been trying to rid my self of the little me-thing (the self archetypes) when instead the little me-thing is a requirement for the experience of TaoGodHerThe me-thing is God as an individual seeing, experiencing, and dancing with God as the All and Everything.

As I told Jerry on the call, he probably saved me years of futile effort.

Note to Readers: This does not negate the boundless, Emptiness/Vastness quality. Indeed, you have to pass through the Gateless Gate (drop your ego-centric identification with your story, past, roles, etc.) before any of this stuff is applicable to you.

So the process (the Mystical Oneness version at least) goes something like this:

  • I am a person (Mortal quality)
  • I am a Soul (Eternal quality)
  • I am Love (Radiant quality)
  • I am One with Everything (Vastness quality)
  • I experience the Divine (Intimate quality)
  • I flow between these qualities (Mystical Oneness)
  • I should be able to merge with the Divine (Error. Error. Error.)
  • I am a movement in and of and as the Divine. (Fully Integrated Understanding)

Here’s another essay Jerry sent me—a parable almost—which beautifully describes the need for the “little me.”

That EMBODIED infinity is now bigger than simple, primordial infinity from which individuality emerged, because it includes individuality AND universality.

  1. Before you conclude Error,I guess you need to read/know Sahaja Nirvikalpa Samadhi ( Antarmukha / Bahirmukha ). One well established analogy is snake-rope parable….When you see Brahman, the world is not seen.Correct me if wrong. I dont deny mortal/eternal quality ;nor my Dharma.

    • Hi kiran. Could you give me a living person who is an example of “I should be able to merge with the Divine (Error. Error. Error.)”? Someone who is transparent about their life so I can review how they live their day-to-day life and handle typical day-to-day issues? As you know, I’m a Mystic, but I’m a rational (evidence based) one.
